Synopsis
In the sun-blasted heartland, Harlan "Sky" Steele, a washed-up crop-duster pilot with a taste for cheap beer and cheaper thrills, rigs a massive Old Glory to his harness for the annual Independence Day air show. What begins as a boozy dare spirals into a gravity-defying anthem when the flag unfurls like a cape and the crowd below erupts, instantly making Sky the face of explosive, unfiltered patriotism. As cameras swarm and politicians angle for photo-ops, Sky's simple descent becomes a cultural lightning rod, pitting small-town pride against media spin and forcing him to decide if he's a hero or just a guy who really likes free beer. Friendships fracture, rivals emerge, and a rival media mogul tries to hijack the moment, but Sky's raw, unscripted love of country refuses to be tamed. The film lands with Sky's second jump—this time for real stakes—proving that sometimes the loudest salute is the most honest one, leaving audiences cheering and questioning what America looks like when it stops apologizing for being loud.
The story
Harlan "Sky" Steele, a down-on-his-luck pilot in rural Ohio, accepts a dare to jump with a massive flag on July 4th to impress locals and win free beer for life. He rigs the chute, chugs a stein, and leaps to raucous cheers, instantly going viral.
Media frenzy erupts as politicians and brands swarm Sky; a slick rival stuntman and a cynical reporter try to turn his stunt into a sanitized spectacle, fracturing his friendships and threatening his authenticity while he battles self-doubt.
Sky rejects the machine, rallies the town for a defiant second jump, wins back his crew and love interest, and lands as a genuine folk hero whose unfiltered patriotism reminds everyone why the holiday exists.

EXT. RURAL OHIO AIRFIELD - DAY A battered yellow crop duster sits on cracked tarmac under a merciless July sun. Country music blares. HARLAN "SKY" STEELE, 35, shirtless in cutoff shorts and aviators, chugs a massive stein of beer while a CROWD of two hundred whoops. SKY (to the mic) This ain't for likes. This is for the flag that never folds. He straps into a parachute rig with a tightly packed American flag the size of a billboard. His buddy RUSTY hands him another beer. RUSTY Don't die pretty, Sky. Sky climbs into the plane. It roars down the runway. At three hundred feet he stands on the wing, flag rig on his back, stein raised. SKY (yelling) America! He leaps. The chute deploys. The giant flag unfurls beneath him like a cape, snapping in the wind as the crowd below explodes into cheers.
Why now
In a divided moment craving unapologetic joy and shared spectacle, Sky Salute delivers a loud, beer-soaked love letter to American excess that feels both nostalgic and freshly defiant, giving audiences permission to cheer without irony.
